Intensive Course for Referees in Luanda — first edition in July 2025

The Angolan Bar Association (O.A.A.), in partnership with the Commercial Arbitration Center (CAC), is honoured to announce the first edition in Luanda of the prestigious Intensive Arbitrators Course, to be held from July 14 to 16, 2025, at the Extension Building of the Catholic University of Angola.

This training is inspired by the successful previous editions held in other Lusophone countries, recognised for its academic rigour, practical utility, and real impact on empowering legal professionals in commercial arbitration.

In a context where arbitration is increasingly pivotal in resolving disputes in modern markets, this course aims to strengthen competencies and prepare a new generation of professionals to act as arbitrators or representatives in arbitration proceedings.

For this purpose, a selection contest for trainees will be held, and 30 vacancies are available, which will be distributed among the Provincial Councils and Delegations of the O.A.A., based on their size and representativeness, namely:

1. Luanda Provincial Council – 7 vacancies
2. Benguela Provincial Council – 3 vacancies
3. Provincial Council of Huambo – 3 vacancies
4. Provincial Council of Huíla – 3 vacancies
5. Cabinda Provincial Council – 1 vacancy
6. Provincial Council of Namibe – 1 vacancy
7. Provincial Council of Lunda-Norte – 1 vacancy
8. Provincial Council of Bié – 1 vacancy
9. Provincial Council of Cuando-Cubango – 1 vacancy
10. Provincial Council of Cuanza-Sul – 1 vacancy
11. Provincial Council of Uige – 1 vacancy
12. Provincial Delegation of Bengo – 1 vacancy
13. Provincial Delegation of Cuanza-Norte – 1 vacancy
14. Provincial Delegation of Cunene – 1 vacancy
15. Provincial Delegation of Lunda-Sul – 1 vacancy
16. Provincial Delegation of Malanje – 1 vacancy
17. Provincial Delegation of Moxico – 1 vacancy
18. Zaire Provincial Delegation – 1 vacancy

Application requirements

1. Be a lawyer with at least five (5) years of effective practice of law.
2. Not have been the subject of disciplinary proceedings in the last ten (10) years.
3. Have your dues regularised with the O.A.A.
4. Be registered in the Arbitration Congress.
5. Be able to pay for their own logistical expenses, namely transportation, accommodation and food in Luanda, during the training period.

Applications

The application phase is ongoing until July 5th. Interested individuals who meet the specified requirements must complete the application form.

Deadlines

Registration period: from July 2 to 5th, 2025
Publication of the final list of those selected: July 7, 2025
Start of training: July 14, 2025.

  • Train and empower lawyers for the role of arbitrator;

  • Promote practical understanding of arbitration procedures, from conventions to issuing judgments;

  • Stimulate critical analysis and decision-making through the study of real cases and simulations.
