XIII Portuguese-Brazilian Arbitration Conference | Arbitration in the Energy Sector

XIII Portuguese-Brazilian Arbitration Conference | Arbitration in the Energy Sector

The Commercial Arbitration Centre of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CAC) and the Center for Arbitration and Mediation of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CAM-CCBC) are organizing the XIII Portuguese-Brazilian Arbitration Conference, which will take place on 22 October 2026, under the theme “Arbitration in the Energy Sector: Portuguese-Brazilian Experiences”.

The event will be held in São Paulo, as part of São Paulo Arbitration Week (SPAW) 2026, bringing together Portuguese and Brazilian experts to discuss the main legal and regulatory challenges facing the energy sector, with a particular focus on the role of arbitration in dispute resolution.

The conference will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will feature two discussion panels:

  • Panel 1: “Changes in the Dynamics of the Energy Sector: Arbitration, Legislative Amendments and Regulatory Developments.”
  • Panel 2: “Disputes in the Energy Sector: Breach of Contract, Force Majeure and Price Revision. Trends and Perspectives.”, which will feature the participation of Sofia Ribeiro Mendes, partner of DLA Piper and President of the CAC Diversity Committee, and Gonçalo Malheiro, partner of Abreu Advogados, both in representation of the Commercial Arbitration Centre.

This initiative provides another opportunity to exchange experiences and knowledge between the Portuguese and Brazilian arbitration communities, fostering joint reflection on the challenges of arbitration in an evolving sector.
